Customer Centric

The academic matters - as an author, a reader, an Editor or a peer reviewer or society member; and they are always at the heart of any strategy we develop or problem we try and solve.

For any publisher, society, organisation and start-up to be successful the academic must be at the centre of any organisation so their needs are understood and addressed.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

"It was a pleasure to work with Sarah, Phil and all of the team at Sarah Greaves STEM Consulting. Their extensive publishing experience, advice and strategic insight helped us to radically reimagine how we publish content for our members. They worked with us on a full publishing proposal, all the way through to the launch of a brand-new digital content hub. They were integral every step of the way. Thank you!"

- Martin O'Connor - Head of Content, The Royal College of Podiatry

“Sarah has worked with Portland Press Ltd as a non-executive director since December 2022, providing an independent and subject-expert perspective on the challenges facing a small society publisher. Always supportive, she provides wise and objective counsel to staff and volunteers at all levels and makes herself available for informal conversations between meetings. Sarah has undertaken occasional projects on behalf of the Board which are always thorough and highly effective."

- Phil Morgan, CEO, The Biochemical Society

"Sarah is terrific to work with, she has a deep knowledge of all aspects of the publishing sector and is able to quickly assess complex situations, get to the crux of the problem/challenge and suggest insightful and practical solutions. Sarah is people centred, quickly building strong relationships and showing understanding, empathy, and care to all. She genuinely partners with the organisations and teams she works with, she is great fun, fast paced and solution focused."

- Emma Wilson, Director of Publishing, Royal Society of Chemistry

"Sarah is a wonderful person to work with. Her advice is insightful, focused and pragmatic. It draws on her extensive experience in publishing at Nature and Hindawi. She has a "let's move fast" mindset which we appreciate. We love working with Sarah!"-

- Richard Price | Founder & CEO at Academia.edu

"Sarah is fantastic!"

"She brings energy and clarity to discussions and ensures focus is on the key areas. She helped us create an effective management structure, empowering the team to work independently".

- Emma Feloy | Managing Director of RPI

Sarah is a perfect combination of a publishing expert and an entrepreneur: She has an incredible knowledge of the research publishing industry and its evolution but is not afraid to challenge how it operates and to try new things out to deliver best-possible results for the researcher community and for the business.

She’s also a great problem solver, has got an amazing ability to cut through nonsensical business speak and explain complex matters in an easy to digest way!

- Marta Rolak | Product Director, Springer Nature

Sarah has been instrumental in supporting the RCoA, to audit and analyse its published and educational content to identify and explore future opportunities for it to enhance member perception. Working closely with staff and clinicians Sarah has weaved a successful path in changing the narrative around these products and services and how the RCoA produces and markets them. I have really enjoyed working with Sarah and can't wait to work with her again.

- Graham Blair | Director of Membership,

Media & Development, The Royal College of Anaesthetists

"Sarah is a true academic publishing leading professional.

When working with Figshare, she helped manage structural and organisational change, whilst mentoring team members of operations strategy.

We were able to achieve our goals in a very efficient manner due to Sarah's deep knowledge of the space combined with her strategic know-how. By coming into a less experienced management team moving from a start-up to scale-up, we were able to make use of her extensive experience in the space to define strategy, fast.

Thank you Sarah!"

- Mark Hahnel | Founder of Figshare

"When embarking on a strategic project with a new business partner, it’s always a good idea to get the thoughts of a neutral. Sarah and I first worked on such a project in early 2021, when Sarah quickly became a trusted advisor on a project requiring C-Level sign-off from multiple organisations. Always an active listener, Sarah worked with key stakeholders to ascertain their main concerns and then worked with colleagues to propose a solution that allowed the project to move forward.

I’ve subsequently worked with Sarah on several other change management projects that have each benefited from Sarah’s approach to collaboration and experience"

- Jonathan Breeze | MD, Research Workflows & CEO at Symplectic

"Sarah has made a super impact for our team over the last 6 months, marshalling our forces across a range of diverse teams, effortlessly steering us through our weekly rhythm of huddles and reports to get the job done, and always with humour and empathy for everyone involved. I look forward to the next time we’ll work together. Thanks, Sarah!"

- Chris Graf | Research Integrity Director, Springer Nature

Sarah is an amazing person to work with, embodying a commendable work ethic and a determined "let's get it done" mentality.

Her ability to guide teams toward focused and successful outcomes is remarkable. Sarah's pragmatic advice provides clarity on the path forward, establishing her as an invaluable collaborator and mentor figure.

- Elena Tsokali | Head of Publishing Operations, Karger Publishers

"We worked with Sarah on a specific workflow change project where she carefully navigated the needs of both the publisher and ourselves providing solutions, project management and followed through to making necessary changes.

She was a delight to work with"

- Alice Ellingham | Director, Editorial Office Ltd
